We are excited to share that our water well drilling has resumed! The government of Cambodia recently eased some of the restrictions put into place in reaction to the rapidly rising Covid-19 numbers making it possible for us to once again travel between provinces as needed for the work of our ministry. Local curfews have also been lifted.
Just since mid-May, we have drilled 10 new clean water wells in the name of Jesus, dramatically improving the living conditions of about 6,000 people. Four of the water wells were drilled in our home province, Kandal. We’ve even had the opportunity to install six wells in a province where we haven’t drilled before, Kampong Cham.
Before we could drill in this new location of Kampong Cham, we had to make sure that the soil conditions were right. Some areas of rural Cambodia have too many hard rocks and are not conducive to the rig we use to make new wells.
Our drilling team and our leadership are optimistic as we look forward to continuing our work this year, despite the roller coaster of infection rates the country has seen in recent months. Cambodia’s government is currently enforcing mandatory Covid-19 vaccinations for everyone over 18 years of age.
Because of the previous restrictions, we have a little bit of catching up to do to reach our 2021 goal for drilling 100 new, clean water wells. Nevertheless, we’re thankful that we’re on track to donate record amounts of food this year to families in desperate need.
Please continue to pray with and for us as we begin to resume more normal ministry operations and adapt to the local authorities’ guidelines for the Cambodian people. Thank you for your support!
