2021 Rice Distributions Surpass 73,700 Pounds

Responding to the rise of Covid-19 cases in Cambodia this year and subsequent governmental restrictions, we are working tirelessly this year to help alleviate a dire growing issue: hunger.

In January of this year, we couldn’t have known how drastically this need would increase. We knew that, for those Cambodians already living in poverty, the pandemic’s economic impact separated thousands from their jobs. Impoverished families lost access to even the most basic human necessities, making life extraordinarily difficult.

It was our 2021 goal to distribute 50,000 pounds of rice to these men, women and children. We’ve now distributed 73,786 pounds of rice to Cambodians in need.

Over the course of a dozen community outreach events this year, we gave away food to thousands of families. In addition to rice, our giveaways included 10,500 cans of fish; 1,800 bottles of fish and soy sauces; and over 38,000 packages of noodles. Villagers traveled to six different distribution sites, including the city garbage dump, to receive the food. With the recent relaxation of travel restrictions, we even donated rice, noodles, and fish for our first time in Kampong Speu province.

A local Khmer ministry, Mercy Village Church, continues to come through as one of our most consistent partners in blessing Cambodian families. Although they themselves have very limited resources, they helped facilitate 1/3 of these mass food distributions.

One villager said, “I have seen what the Lord has done, using the poor to be a blessing to other poor families. They’re showing God’s love, which lasts forever. To God be the glory.”

Please consider partnering with us to help fight extreme poverty in Cambodia. You can support our Covid-19 response efforts, clean water well construction, importing medical supplies, sustainable farming initiatives, and more.

Thank you to everyone who is already working with us to make lasting change in Cambodia! You are helping us act as the hands and feet of Jesus.
